The old imperial residence of the tsars dazzles in front of your eyes, despite the fact that it was only founded in 1703 by Peter the Great. This is because he funded the construction of a number of magnificent cathedrals and palaces that now stand amid the city's many canals and waterways. The Hermitage Museum, however, stands head and shoulders above the rest of the city's many world-class attractions and should not be missed.
Because St Petersburg is known for its amazing performing arts, no visit is complete without seeing one of the city's magnificent ballets, concerts, or operas.
