Chinese New Year - Reunion Dinner

Family members reaffirm the love and respect that bind them together as a unit at the annual reunion dinner (tuan'nianfan). It is also referred to as tuanyuan (or weilu), which translates to "gathering around the family fire."

For a reunion meal, chicken is typically braised or roasted with simple ingredients like ginger or soy. A whole chicken is traditionally first offered to one's gods and ancestors for protection and blessings.

White rice, tea, and fresh fruit for dessert are not included in the traditional reunion meal (for luck). A cold appetizer, soup, three main meat courses, a vegetable dish, noodles, and fried rice should be part of the meal.
