By class standards, the engine is quite smooth and quiet, with the body and steering wheel largely vibration-free at idling. While the Triton lacks the power and torque of certain competitors, it is worth noting that it is lighter - at 1990kg, it is 220kg lighter than a Ranger and 55kg lighter than a HiLux.
It was designed by Akinori Nakanishi and constructed exclusively by Mitsubishi's Thai subsidiary before being marketed to 140 countries. Except in Japan and its satellite countries, it was mainly known as L200.
The Triton (as it's been known since 1986) is Mitsubishi's one-tonne truck response to the Toyota HiLux and Ford Ranger, which dates back to the late 1970s as the L200 series.
