People prepare for Chinese New Year well in advance in Malaysia and elsewhere. Before the new year arrives, homes are thoroughly cleaned to "sweep out any bad luck," but on New Year's Day, brooms are hidden for fear of "sweeping away the good luck" that comes with it.
Chinese New Year In Malaysia
Each Chinese New Year is known as "the year of" one of the 12 animals that make up the Chinese zodiac. This animal is supposed to represent that year and all of the people born in it.
